01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Just past the Yanaka Ginza shopping street in Sendagi 3-chome, coffee chi-zu starts its day quietly when the doors open at 8:00. Operating before neighboring storefronts begin stirring, it has become a comfortable stop for those seeking early nourishment or a calm start before exploring the neighborhood. Inside, the warmth of handwritten, illustrated menus presents several morning sets tailored to different morning appetites.

Tailored Morning Sets and a Wide Coffee Lineup

The breakfast offerings start with the classic A Set—thick-cut half toast, a mini salad, and a boiled egg—alongside options that incorporate yogurt or sweet red bean paste. The accompanying morning coffee can be ordered hot or iced, and refills are available at a modest price until 11:15. The bean selection goes well beyond standard house blends, covering lightly roasted cinnamon roasts, assertive deep French roasts, and single-origin options like Ethiopia and Mandheling, all brewed meticulously by hand drip.

Sweets and Light Fare for Coffeehouse Hours

Around midday or mid-walk, guests turn to sweet items such as coffee jelly topped with vanilla ice cream and classic New York cheesecake. For savory bites, egg sandwiches and hot dogs are served, alongside non-coffee drinks such as lemon squash and plum soda made with house-crafted syrups, as well as seasonal cream sodas.

Counter seating and tables are arranged with comfortable breathing room, creating an easy atmosphere for solo visitors to settle in without fuss. Stepping slightly back from the lively neighborhood streets, it is an inviting place when you want to take your time over a thoughtfully chosen cup.
